Our store was really crowded during the Star Festival. One year my little sister, Haruyo, got lost in the crowd. It took all day to find her. I was
worried, but she was having fun...
We sold a lot of noodles during festivals like Tanabata. The shop was
so crowded I could hardly move. It was busy and hard, but exciting, too!

5 years old in my festival outfit: head gear and Happi coat. The collar says “Suehiro” which was the name of our families’ Soba shop. Our whole family wore the store name on a festival day. The sandals are called Zori.
The portable shrine rests on a stand behind me. It was carried through the streets during the festival. The “Kami” leaves the shrine and travels in there!
